Parqify v1.0.4 introduces Parquet-to-Parquet transformation, enabling schema changes and file optimization without rebuilding existing pipelines. You can now remove columns, change data types, reorder columns, and generate optimized Parquet output.

This release also adds built-in optimization profiles for Amazon Athena, AWS Glue, Apache Spark, Trino, and Presto, along with custom Parquet settings for compression, row groups, dictionary encoding, page size, and Parquet version tuning.

Additional improvements include HTTPS support and various bug fixes and stability enhancements.

What's new:

  1. Parquet-to-Parquet Conversion.

    This enables organizations to modify existing Parquet datasets without rebuilding pipelines from the original source files.

    Common use cases include:

    • Updating Parquet schemas;
    • Removing unused columns;
    • Changing column data types;
    • Reordering columns for improved query performance;
    • Changing parquet settings;
    • Changing Optimizations profiles for specific analytics engine;
    • Re-optimizing existing Parquet files for analytics platforms.

  2. Built-in Parquet Optimization Profiles:

    • Default
    • AWS Athena
    • AWS Glue
    • Apache Spark
    • Trino
    • Presto
    • Custom

    3. The Default profile provides balanced settings that work well across many analytics platforms and data lake environments. Profiles automatically apply recommended Parquet settings to help improve query performance and storage efficiency.

  3. Custom Parquet Settings.

    For advanced use cases, Parqify now allows full control over key Parquet configuration options:

    • Compression codec
    • Compression level
    • Dictionary encoding (enable/disable)
    • Page size (MiB)
    • Parquet version (v1 and v2)
    • Maximum rows per row group

    4. This makes it easier to tune Parquet files for specific workloads, performance requirements, and storage goals.

  4. HTTPS Support.

    Parqify now supports HTTPS for secure access to the web interface.

Parqify v1.0.2 introduces new schema flexibility, usability improvements, and bug fixes.

What's new:

  1. Added three schema inference modes, allowing users to choose how schema detection is performed:

    • Per file;
    • Based on the largest file;
    • Based on a user provided sample file.

  2. Added support for custom schemas, which can now be defined and managed directly from the web UI.

  3. Improved the web UI for a smoother and more user friendly experience.

  4. Added more instance types where Parqify is now available:

    • c6i.xlarge..8xlarge
    • r6i.xlarge..8xlarge
    • r7i.xlarge..8xlarge
    • r6in.xlarge..8xlarge.
